• understand the public health issues around prescription drug misuse
• target the review of medicines most likely to be abused, e.g. opioids, gabapentinoids, benzodiazepines
• employ strategies to reduce prescription drug misuse
• be aware of resources available to support patients dealing with prescription drug misuse
