Aim
Focusing on older people, provide an update on medicines optimisation issues for such adults with multiple long-term conditions

Intended learning outcomes
Having completed this workshop you will be able to:

• Understand the implications of polypharmacy
• Consider patient groups that are likely to be taking many medicines and are particularly vulnerable to adverse drug reactions
• Know when to consider use of “drug holidays”, e.g. bladder antimuscarinics, bisphosphates
• Describe conditions that commonly affect older people and how they should be managed, e.g. hypertension, dementia, urinary incontinence, increased risk of falls
• Deprescribe, reduce or substitute inappropriate medicines through a structured medication review for patients, involving the patient and their family members/carers in the discussion and any decision about changes to current treatment regimens

Please note that the ACP workshops are half day sessions and will run in the morning (10am – 1pm) and in the afternoon (2pm-5pm) at each venue. In total, there are TEN workshops on offer. Please take care to ensure that you apply for the session that you wish to attend.
