The MedicinesNI website was initially set up by the Northern Ireland Centre for Pharmacy Learning and Development (NICPLD) in 2007, at the request of the Department of Health NI, to provide an eLearning course for GPs, foundation doctors and nurses throughout Northern Ireland on the safe and effective use of medicines arising from the recommendations of the Shipman Inquiry.
Whilst MedicinesNI was initially established to facilitate the hosting of one eLearning course, advances in technology and expansion of learning types offered by NICPLD has enabled MedicinesNI to expand its remit to include; additional eLearning courses; registration for advanced clinical practice workshops; provision of webinars and hosting of webinar recordings. The range of health care professionals accessing MedicinesNI has also increased.
It should be noted that whilst the eLearning course activities are aimed at pharmacists, the clinical content is applicable to other healthcare professionals.
NICPLD's vision is to deliver education and training that meets or exceeds client requirements. Accredited to ISO 9001:2015, NICPLD is committed to high-quality service, client satisfaction, and continuous improvement.
Further details of the activities of NICPLD can be found on the NICPLD website.
